Community in Action: Lemons to Lemonade x Miracles for Kids

When We Come Together, We Create Light

By Sophia Donald, Founder of Lemons to Lemonade

In January, Lemons to Lemonade partnered with Miracles for Kids to host 50 children and families who are navigating serious medical and financial hardship.

As someone who experienced loss at a young age, creating joyful spaces like this means everything to me.

Our goal for the day was simple.
Let kids be kids.
Let families breathe.
Bring light into a hard season.

What We Created Together

At Lemons to Lemonade, we hosted multiple activity stations designed to spark creativity and connection.

Face painting transformed little faces into butterflies, superheroes, and bright works of art.
Tote bag decorating gave each child something colorful and personal to take home.
Journal decorating helped every child create a space that belongs entirely to them.

The amazing volunteers from National Charity League led a fun and sparkly slime-making station. The kids absolutely loved it. There was glitter, laughter, and so much pride in what they made.

The room was full of energy and smiles. For a few hours, the weight many of these families carry felt lighter.

Why the Journals Matter

The journals were especially important to me.

After we decorated them, I talked with the kids about what journaling can be used for. Writing down feelings that are hard to say out loud. Talking to someone you miss. Letting out worries. Recording moments of gratitude.

When I was younger, writing helped me process emotions I did not fully understand yet.

Research shows that expressive writing can reduce stress and anxiety and improve emotional regulation. Studies have found that regularly writing about feelings can significantly improve mental well-being.

Sometimes a blank page becomes a safe place.
That is powerful.

The Power of Partnership

It is truly a pleasure when strong nonprofits in our community want to partner with Lemons to Lemonade.

Collaboration multiplies impact.
It allows us to reach more families.
It allows more joy to spread.

I am so grateful to Miracles for Kids for welcoming us and to National Charity League for supporting the day’s activities.

This is why I started Lemons to Lemonade. Even in hardship, there is room for connection, creativity, and resilience.

I cannot wait to see where we go next together.

Let’s keep making lemonade.
